You tried. That is the part that has to be said first, because you have not been giving yourself credit for it.
You stood in the kitchen this morning, on purpose, having decided the night before, and you opened your mouth to say one sentence of it again, and nothing came out.
Not refusal. Not anger. The sentence simply would not form, and you stood there for about a minute and then made the coffee.
And you have spent the day since deciding what that means about you. That you must not want to. That the promise must be gone. That there is something in you that has quietly withdrawn without informing you.
Here is what this page is going to do. It is going to take the verdict away and give you nothing to do about it, because on this subject nothing to do is exactly right.
If you cannot say it today, you are not failing at anything. Nothing here is asking you for a sentence you do not have. That is not a softening of the standard. There is no standard on this page. There never was.

Pour out your heart before him
There is a line in Psalm 62 with an instruction so wide that almost nothing fails it.
Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him (Psalm 62:8, King James Version)
Pour out your heart. Not present it. Not phrase it. Not deliver it. Pour it out, which is what you do with a container when what is inside it will not come out in an orderly way.
That is a verb chosen for the contents that will not organize themselves. The psalmist is not describing a well constructed prayer. He is describing an emptying.
You are able to pour out what will not form into a sentence, and Psalm 62 has never once required the contents to be arranged first. Psalm 62:8 says pour out your heart before him, and the Holy Spirit is the one who receives what a woman could not get into words at seven this morning.
And notice the timing on the first half. Trust in him at all times, which by definition includes the mornings when nothing works.
You have been received on a day when nothing came out, and the word has never once made the words the condition of the pouring. The passage puts the instruction at all times and the method at pouring, and the Spirit of God is the one who was in the kitchen for the whole minute you stood there.
What this morning was and was not
Let me tell you what a sentence failing to form usually means, because it is almost never the thing that got concluded at seven this morning.
Sometimes it is tiredness. Sometimes it is that a person has been holding something all week and the holding uses the same equipment as the speaking. Sometimes the body simply declines a large sentence on a particular Tuesday and there is no more to it than that.
And sometimes, genuinely, it is grief. Not about the marriage. About the years, or a version of yourself, or a thing that did not happen, and grief will stop a sentence more reliably than doubt ever does.
None of those is the verdict you have been carrying around since seven this morning. Not one of them means the promise is gone.
You are holding a promise that a stalled sentence has no authority over, and a throat has never once been able to rule on a covenant. Psalm 62:8 receives an unformed heart poured out rather than a composed one delivered, and the Holy Spirit is the one who takes a false conclusion off a woman's whole day.
You have a promise that did not consult your throat about whether it still stands, and it has never once depended on today's sentence arriving. It is written that we pour out the heart before Him at all times, and the Spirit of God is the one who holds a promise steady on a morning when nothing forms.
Do the smaller thing, or do nothing
Here is the assignment, and it comes in two sizes, and the second size is genuinely permitted.
The first size: say one sentence of it again, out loud, to God, with today's knowledge in it. If it comes, say it. If it will not, do not force it.
The second size: stand there and say nothing at all, and let that be the pouring out. Psalm 62 does not specify words. A minute in a kitchen with an unformed heart is a thing that verse covers exactly.
And if neither of those happens today, close the page and go and do your day. Come back in a month or do not come back. Nothing on this site is keeping score and nothing here is holding you anywhere.
You are able to bring an unformed thing and have it received, and it has never once had to arrive as a sentence. Psalm 62:8 instructs a pouring rather than a statement, and the Holy Spirit is the one who is present in a kitchen with a woman who is not saying anything.
Here is what I believe is going out over somebody today.
You are not a woman whose promise has quietly gone, and one morning of a sentence not forming has never once been a report on anything. Psalm 62:8 says pour out your heart before him, and it is the Holy Spirit, not my telling you, who takes a verdict off a whole day.
And this, which is what I came with.
You are received exactly as you stood there this morning, and it has never once been necessary to get the words out first. The word instructs a pouring rather than a statement and puts the trusting at all times, and the same Spirit who moved that psalm is standing on the path with you.
Do the smaller thing, or do nothing at all.
Declare this over yourself
- Morning when the words would not come, you were never a verdict. Psalm 62:8 says pour out your heart before him, so by the Holy Spirit I stop reading my own throat as a ruling, in the name of Jesus.
- Six weeks of deciding what that silence revealed, you are finished today. The word instructs a pouring out rather than a delivery and puts the trusting at all times, and by the Spirit of God I am done treating a stalled sentence as a report.
- Father, You receive a heart poured out and You never once asked for it to be organized first. Your word says trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him, so by Your Spirit I bring today exactly as it came out.
